No Place Like @ Zoo (Monkey House)

Review by Eric Karoulla | 20 Aug 2013

No Place Like is an intelligent piece exploring memory and the sense of alienation from the self and home. After all, what is home but an expression of our experiences and a place where we both form and store our memories?

Performed by Le Mot Juste, No Place Like is at times funny, at times sad, at times angry. It pieces together fragments of memories in seemingly random order, in the way a person verging on senile would narrate a tale. There are moments where the form in which it is told causes the mind to stray slightly; where it is easy to wonder where the plot is gone, but they recover it very easily. It presents an innovative way of examining memory through the eyes of the elderly.

Overall, Le Mot Juste yield a play that is as good fun as it is a touch absurdist, and yet unexpectedly thoughtful.
