EastEnd Cabaret: Notoriously Kinky @ Underbelly

Following last year’s success in the Free Fringe, Eastend Cabaret return to Edinburgh with a sizzling new show. United by their love of gin, music and cabaret performance, Bernadette Byrne and Victor Victoria (affectionately known as Victy) are stepping up their sexual revolution with Notoriously Kinky. This show is exactly what it says on the box; naughty and sexual, and ever intimate, regardless the size of the venue. Last year’s venue – one of the rooms in The Blind Poet – proved to be quite a squeeze, due to the show’s popularity. 2012 finds the two of them housed comfortably in the Belly Dancer (Underbelly, Cowgate).

“We can fit a whole lot of people into the space – it does get quite intimate in there,” Victor Victoria declared. “And besides, Bernadette enjoys getting out into the audience and … connecting. With the people.” Showered with positive reviews – from both 2011 and 2012– the devilish duo nonetheless seems relatively relaxed about performing.

“There is always a little bit of pressure,” pointed out Victor Victoria, Bernadette’s personal freak. “It’s necessary; you don’t want to let anybody down. The stage is really our natural home, and if one day we stopped enjoying it, then we wouldn’t do it anymore. It’s that simple,” explained Bernadette.

Channeling Liza Minelli, she enjoys the spotlight (as well as the gin and the backpackers!) as the demanding, sequined diva, while Victy is her “personal freak.” Victor Victoria is a musician who is half man, half woman, with a trademark moustache. Despite his/her appearance, Victy is one of the most talented instrumentalists around, able to play anything including a kazoo, keyboards, an accordion and a glockenspiel named Sofia.
