So Much Potential

Chris Timoney and Jonathan Hearn’s mix of songs, sketches and stand-up feels a bit like a preview show. Clearly a creative pair, they’re keen to try out lots of bits and pieces, some of which works while some doesn’t. The opening sequence sees them swapping between segments of individual stand-up, but not particularly linked by theme or style this feels a bit disjointed. They find a better flow in the middle section, establishing a rapport with each other through adopting various personas and following the occasional surreal tangent.

A host of material about fridge contents and a rather nice rendition of the Home and Away theme tune places us firmly in student territory. The ukulele-backed songs are good and perhaps could form the glue to hold the thing together. It’s a shame that frequent changes of pace tend to work against rather than for the material – there are a number of quality jokes and original nuggets, but these are undermined by some underdeveloped and infantile content.

There is potential here, it's just that Timoney and Hearn have yet to find the best form to bring it out. It’s early days though, and the show will no doubt improve in the course of its run.
