Nish Kumar @ Pleasance Courtyard

Nish Kumar has worked recent political events into his new show, which sees the comedian going from strength to strength

Review by Polly Glynn | 10 Aug 2016

In this very satisfying hour of comedy Nish Kumar brings us some tales of his travels to music gigs where, there alone, he found himself having public meltdowns. This particularly was the case at concerts where recently the artist has passed; James Brown, David Bowie, Prince. Was it his fault?

He turns this into an exploration of Britain, and the tone of the show becomes more political as he remarks on a personal incident on the day of the referendum results. He wrote a little about this in a recent column for the Guardian, and here he brings a more emotional punch to proceedings. However, both intellectual and down-to-earth with his comedy, big ideas are presented in ways that non-Guardian readers can also understand. And best of all, he makes it funny, and in Kumar's hands it seems easily and effortlessly funny.

In Actions Speak Louder Than Words, the eminently likeable Kumar seems at the peak of his powers, and brings his audience onside in thought as well as laughter.
