Lost Voice Guy @ The Stand

Review by Cara McNamara | 16 Aug 2017

A good idea doesn't quite flourish in Lost Voice Guy's latest hour

Lee Ridley, aka Lost Voice Guy, hates the Paralympics, which he sees as inspiration porn, and also dangerous in that it divides disabled people into two camps – superhumans and worthless 'crips'.

Through complications with cerebral palsy, Ridley relies on voice technology for his routines. He's making a nuanced argument but his routines are a little too baggy, and in need of some judicious editing to bring out the best ideas. Unfortunately, this lack of polish only exaggerates his relentlessly negative outlook – doubtless an asset acerbic and sardonic humour on some days – but today serves only to lower the mood for the audience. Which is a shame, because Inspiration Porn is a show which has a great hook.

Lost Voice Guy: Inspiration Porn, The Stand Comedy Club 5 (The Place, 34-38 York Place), until 27 Aug (not 7, 14 & 21 Aug), 1.15pm, £8-9
