Mogwai will perform their score for Mark Cousins' documentary Atomic, Living in Dread and Promise at next year's Edinburgh International Festival, it was announced today.

The Glasgow post-rock oufit – celebrating their 20th anniversary this year – will perform the score to the documentary, which was broadcast by the BBC earlier this year.

Atomic aired to coincide with 70th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima during the Second World War; Cousins was one of the judges for The Skinny's 2015 Short Film Competition.

Next year's EIF will also feature a new project from Portishead's Adrian Utley, Becky Unthank of The Unthanks and Mogwai's Dominic Aitchison with the working title Flit, and Salzburg Festival’s acclaimed production of Bellini's opera Norma.

EIF 2015 featured gigs from Franz Ferdinand and Sparks as FFS and Sufjan Stevens, as well as performances from Bryce Dessner of The National and our November 2015 cover star Oneohtrix Point Never.

The 2016 Edinburgh International Festival runs from 5 to 29 August 2016; the full 2016 programme will be announced on 6 April.
