The Blog 'n' Roll Party Retrospective

We had a fabulous time at our Blog 'n' Roll Party at Macsorley's Music Bar (Jamaica Street, Glasgow) on Thursday 16 April 2009. Free bubbly, homemade petit fours, super-suave jivers, toe-tapping, sing-a-longs and Rebel Without A Cause. Just swell!

The evening got off to a swinging start with an hour long dj set from Lady Wurlitzer (aka Made In The Shade organiser, Carrie Maclennan).  Playing a mix of old-time country, 50s rock'n'roll and vintage ditties, early bird guests enjoyed tunes by the likes of The Louvin Brothers, Rosemary Clooney, Eddie Cochran and The Everly Brothers.

The Made In The Shade Gals were thrilled to have The Dirt, Scotland's answer to the Handsome Family and loyal supporters of Made In The Shade, perform at the party.  Set highlights included Glue – Graeme Dirt's melancholic ode to his broken guitar, and Diamonds in the Rough – a stirring adaptation of The Carter Family classic.

With guests suitably tiddly on free bubbly, The Meat Men took to the stage to much whooping and foot stomping. Playing tracks from their new album, Redneck Dinner Party, party-goers were treated to an upbeat set from one of the hardest working bands in Glasgow.  Contagious singalong number Redneck Dinner Party was a hit and many a skirt was swirling during a fine chorus of, 'The girl's old enough to be your mama!'.

The blog launch celebrations continued late into the night with a swell party soundtrack from Lady Wurlitzer & Made In The Shade DJ sidekick Clare Nicolson!
