Lemoncustard Comedy

Article by Edward Whelan | 25 Mar 2009

Welcome to the topsy turvy world of the Lemoncustard Comedy Club, a fine way to spend an afternoon with a fizzy drink in your hand and a big silly grin on your face. Every custard club comes with three different comics, held together by the superb sticky tape of hosts Siân Bevan and Dee Custance.

John Gavin and Mikey Adams are our first two comics du jour and they keep us chuckling along in the first half to their naughty stories. Headlining is the excellent and dapper Susan Calman, full of dry and self deprecating humour with sudden bursts of demented giggles.

It does feel unusual at first to watch comedy in a bright room where you can see blue sky through the roof, but the venue suits the afternoon’s sunshiney mood. Interspersed between the acts were fun and games with our hosts giving the audience lots of opportunity to scream out answers, all hyper from the sweeties.

Themes of mothering and the lies we can tell innocent children ran through the Mothering Sunday afternoon, creating a yummy blend of comedy pudding. Wear your best fuzzy jumper and dig in for a treat.
