Stu & Garry: The Lunchtime Show

Review by Bernard O'Leary | 08 Aug 2012

Scotland's most jealously guarded secret are back on the Fringe, as Stu and Garry take their weekly lunchtime show to the more salubrious surroundings of the Assembly Rooms. For those who don't know, Stu & Garry are a two-man improv team who've worked together for twenty years. They rip the living piss out of each other on stage, but there's a very deep and palpable man-love between the pair that makes the act work. Quick-witted as individuals, they bounce off each other with such dexterity that you sometimes suspect they have a psychic link.

There's a terrific sense of adventure in their improv. They always go for the most outlandish suggestions, and sometimes will add tehri own caveats Today, for example, the audience suggests that Stu play the next scene as a bear. Just for fun, Stu decides to make the bear a bomb disposal expert. It doesn't matter to them, because they know they can make anything funny. If you're just visiting Scotland for the Fringe, you must see Stu & Garry. But don't try to take them home with you. They're ours.
