My Glasgow: Georgina the Bride

Georgina the Bride is the evil alter-ego of character comedian Anna Morris (ITV2’s Bad Bridesmaid). She has her own popular YouTube series and is hosting a Woman of the Year awards show as part of her show Would Like to Thank

Feature by Anna Morris | 17 Mar 2015

I’d never been further north than Hampstead before so I was quite worried about possible culture shock in Glasgow!

I also have an irrational fear of bagpipes and my skin-tone doesn’t suit tartan so I was quite anxious about it TBH. I thought haggis was an STD so I was totally un-educated. I said to my fiancé Simon, what if there is civil unrest because Alex Smoked Salmon didn’t become King of Scotland last year?

But when we arrived and went straight to the Hotel Du Vin in the Bentley, I was delighted at what I saw from the tinted windows! Museums, art galleries, shops, beautiful buildings – many of the regency style of course, very similar to my Grandmother Philomena’s second home. And Glaswegians are such friendly people! In London I haven’t smiled in public since 2006, but everyone is so delightful here. It’s now made me thing about moving our wedding to Glasgow! I’ve looked at 2,343 venues so far in England and NONE of them have been suitable so Glasgow might be ‘the one’.

I’m very excited about hosting the Woman of the Year awards at The Tron on Friday. Of course I won last year for my charity work for impoverished brides – Bride Aid, which I’ll be promoting at the show. Just a small donation of £5,000 could help a woman somewhere afford an ice sculpture of her face, for example.

Well I’m delighted to have discovered Glasgow and its super friendly citizens. I may even hold some of my Bridesmaid auditions here! I hope Glaswegians will come and cast their votes at the Woman of the Year awards (although really it should be me who wins!).
