Kunt & The Gang - Sloppy Seconds

Business as usual for one-man filth factory

Review by Bernard O'Leary | 27 Apr 2012

The latest emission from Basildon's finest is a collection of assorted demos, outtakes and things that didn't fit on any other albums. More for Kunt completists than those getting to know his ouvere, it contains enough memorable moments to make it worthwhile.

The main body of the album shows off Kunt's newest trick, which is rushing out a commemorative ballad within hours of a celebrity death. Results vary, with "Boo Hoo Houston" sounding a bit rushed, while "Amy (It's A Terrible Shamey" is several thousand times better than anything Elton John ever wrote.

Kunt's at his best when he matches an outrageous idea to a cracking synthpop tune, and tucked away in this album is one of his finest, in the shape of "You Brought A Paedo Along To 5-a-side". Apparently based on a true story, this song features a belting singalong chorus which would be the highlight of every package holiday and wedding disco, were it not for the lyrics. Which is kind of the story of Kunt's life.

There are also tons of bonus tracks, including the songs from shortlived YouTube sitcom Perverts On The Internet. While it never reaches the dizzying highs of his masterpiece Shannon Matthews: The Musical, there's plenty here to make it worth a listen.
