Horse & Louis' Comedy Bingo!

Review by Yasmin Ali | 28 Aug 2013

Comedy bingo sounds like fun – something different for a night out. Horse and Louis themselves are perfectly amiable, both as hosts and comperes and in enacting the clues for the bingo items. However, this event was an excuse to intersperse pictionary-style bingo with some very low-calibre comedy acts...

By their own admission, the similarities between themselves and Flight of the Concords is uncanny, both in their looks and in their comedic delivery of songs. They humbly sing 'You haven't paid enough for Flight of The Concords', but the comparison is unavoidable.

Wins were punctuated by three forgettable comics with poor material. In fairness, neither the audience nor the setting suited stand-up, and they were all heckled unabashedly by a large rowdy group of veteran bingo-goers, whose ripostes were funnier than the gags themselves. Indicative of the standard of comedy was a song entitled I Banged Your Mother, delivered without pause to a cringing audience. It would have been far better if Horse and Louis themselves had taken the reins between rounds.
