Vibe

As long as you're in the mood for drinking yourself silly and dancing like a fanny, it's worth a visit

It's been years since I was last at Vibe, and I have a lasting impression of cheap alcopops and a cheaper crowd. Having said that, there are few cheaper than me, so maybe that explains how much fun I had this time around. The place was packed full of dancing disco bunnies, there were some excellent drinks offers, and the bar staff were cheerful and efficient. The music upstairs was all good fun, cheesy choons which packed the dancefloor all night, occasionally punctuated by the even cheesier voice of organiser James Longworth. Downstairs was less busy, and had a slightly seedier atmosphere, typical of the basement at Ego; it seemed to serve as a haven for people who had been dragged there against their will. Think what you like about Vibe, though: after x years, it still delivers. Girls with trays of shooters circulated constantly, and I was fairly pickled by the time I left. Vibe is still cheap, but its total lack of pretension gives it a sort of vulgar charm, and as long as you're in the mood for drinking yourself silly and dancing like a fanny, it's worth a visit once in a while. If neither of those appeal, then it's not for you. [Holly Edwards]
