The Black Rabbit Whorehouse feat Ada (live), Sub Club, May 5

Optimo's sister club gets stuck into the glitches.

Twitch and Wilkes prove that the saying 'jack of all trades, master of none' isn't always the case as they donned different hats and provided the finest in microhouse and minimal techno at Optimo's sporadic sister club The Black Rabbit Whorehouse. Augmented by the new Sub Club soundsystem, the clicks and glitches early on sent tingles up the spine and tickled ear drums in a rather pleasant way. Ada set about making things more melodic with an hour long set drawn from her album 'Blondie' (Areal Records); The Red Shoes and Lucky Charm, in particular mesmerising the rapturous crowd. Ada's style is to stand back and twiddle the knobs, making it look so very easy, despite working in deep synths and acidic twinges to prime the crowd for Twitch and Wilkes again. Their tech-house beats and short-looped melodies, repetitively built to a hypnotic bursting point. [Keira Sinclair]
