Road - Can't Talk

Can't Talk isn't guilty of any musical mishaps, but it fails to really grab you

Album title: Can't Talk
Artist: Road
Label: Stereo Deluxe
Afro Jazz troop Road bring you the latest instalment of their take on the world of contemporary chilled out jazz. The Ballad Of Johnny One-Stop featuring Earl Zinger is one of the strongest tracks of the album. The slow guitar plucking, reminiscent of 'that banjo theme' from Deliverance, combines with the surreal lyrics to create a genuinely bizarre and interesting track: "I know where the little mouse gets in / I know why... small Portuguese custard tarts come my way / I look upon it as a gift." Toda Menina Baihana, featuring Valerie Etienne, is another stand out number, with its cheeky jazzy latin vibe bringing a smile to your face. Can't Talk isn't guilty of any musical mishaps, but it fails to really grab you. [Franck Martin]
