Radioactive Man, Inner City Acid, The Soundhaus, Glasgow, 12 May

He sets it off, tearing the room a new breakbeat and possessing the crowd's feet with all the noises any acid fiend needs, and then some

Characteristically for the Soundhaus, the PA is already getting humped hard with that sweaty, druggy heaviness coming on strong; a dark prayer to the squelchy gods of 303. Nobody deals that sound quite like they do on Hydepark street, and Inner City Acid have some of the best tunes for it. When Radioactive Man finally comes onstage at two o'clock, everybody is as ready and warmed up as they are ever going to get. It's just as well, because with a master of machines this good, you're liable to sprain something if you aren't. He sets it off, tearing the room a new breakbeat and possessing the crowd's feet with all the noises any acid fiend needs, and then some. He plays with relish, and there's a permanent smile on his face. It seems like he's done all he can already when he sets the controls of this rave for the heart of a jungle for the last few tunes. He finishes with a flourish of hyper breaks that have everybody dropping their jackets for one more shake. He says he'll be back. The Skinny hopes he means it. [James Blake]
