Too hard to ignore the near empty dance-floor and resulting lack of atmosphere

Article by Colin Chapman | 15 Jul 2006
Falling on the hottest day of the year so far, sun-worship, barbecues and World Cup-flavoured outdoor drinking sessions were probably higher on the priority list than keeping the evening free to hit a club. Perhaps all this contributed to the poor turnout at the third outing of Dirty-Electro-Filthy-Funk (aka DEFF). A pity, as on this occasion current hot property of the house scene, Mike Monday was making a guest appearance. He holds a residency at one of London's most talked about clubs, Playtime, and the DJ/Producer has notched up numerous production and remix credits while finding time to run the Oven Ready label. Following the pumping foundations laid by resident Cal Gibson, he proceeded to weave through various takes on the house template, also giving a nod to electro and techno. Despite Monday's obvious talents, it proved too hard to ignore the near empty dance-floor and resulting lack of atmosphere. [Colin Chapman]
