Jackhammer, Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh, Aug 13

lured even the bar staff onto the floor

Cabaret Voltaire rocked to some of the most exciting sounds since John Digweed graced its decks in June, when new techno night Jackhammer presented their residents for a festival special. Gee Dub's driving set had all of the small crowd dancing hard, followed by the impressive Ado, only 19 and predominantly playing his own music mixed with old classics. His set presented an astonishing range of sounds; intelligent and demanding, only marred by breakdowns more suited to the bedroom than the dancefloor. Dan Moore finished the night with fast, funky techno laced with plenty of vocals for a sweaty finale that lured even the bar staff onto the floor. With better promotion and a Friday or Saturday night slot, Jackhammer could be a four star night. [Wendy Martin]
