Free Party 86, The Bongo Club, Edinburgh, Aug 4

The crowd got going around 1am but without the enthusiastic frenzy it could have been

The Bongo is always a wicked venue to meet a lively crowd, and their free disco, funk, and old skool hip hop night provided plenty of music to move your groovy feet to. The emphasis was mainly on funk, while the hip hop managed to stay true and avoid turn-offs into crooning RnB. However, there was a slow start to the evening in terms of atmosphere, despite it being the first club to kick off the Festival at the Bongo. The crowd got going around 1am but without the enthusiastic frenzy it could have been; that shouldn't matter too much however as the Bongo's club line-up for the rest of August is something to salivate over![Lara Moloney]
