Daft Punk - Alive 2007

Perfection is an unattainable goal, but, goddamn, this comes close

Album title: Alive 2007
Artist: Daft Punk
Label: Virgin
Not many bands can hope to create a studio album that can be considered a masterpiece, let alone a live one, but that's exactly what Daft Punk have done with Alive 2007, their set recorded at Bercy, Paris last summer. 27 songs spanning the decade since the release of their debut are all included, with fan favourites such as One More Time and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger being expertly spliced and mashed up with other classics including Robot Rock and Da Funk. The duo are masters of their trade, building up anticipation for each song, before letting the explosion of sound rock your ears. This album is technological manipulation at its finest. Apart from a slightly deviating slowdown towards the middle, the pace is fast, furious and exhilarating. Perfection is an unattainable goal, but, goddamn, this comes close. [Michael Slevin]
