Black Affair, Amp Box, Wee Red Bar, Edinburgh, 30 Nov

Over the night, the music at Amp Box ranges from the popular (Thoughtless Hussies) to the obscure (City Crime) and as Steve Mason's latest project, Black Affair, incorporates both these spheres by being catchy if not unusual late night pop music, it certainly is a clever booking. Black Affair goes on to stomp through an extremely short collection of upbeat songs, with the electro-futuristic feel of tracks such as Subfuge and Mute Me especially triumphant in getting the dancefloor moving. Although not all the tracks fully take off, you can sense - with a new album almost out - that this is a work in progress. After the abrupt affair, the busy Amp Box Club carries on in party spirit right to the end. Not even the neon-soaked electro house finale could dampen the mood of an all-round vibrant night.
