Canadian producer Stuart Li's Basic Soul Unit has released a three-track EP showcasing his obvious techno talents. Dancing In My Mind is a slow builder, starting with a simple bleep and bassline, progressing into intricate, glitchy sounds and production. Title track Tunnels has a darker, moody vibe, with a definite Detroit house influence. Sebo K and Metro's remix is actually better than the original, with more of an upbeat, party feel, using tight percussion and old-school filter sweeps, which could work very well on the dancefloor. Overall, this release although very minimal at times, has a lot of soul and depth; it should please any electronica fan. [Karen Taggart]
