Alias & Tarsier - 'Dr. C / 5 Years'

Do you remember This Mortal Coil? So does Alias, and he updates the blueprint in a superlative fashion

Single Review by Bram Gieben | 16 Apr 2006
Label: Anticon
This first single from the forthcoming 'Brookland / Oaklyn' LP offers Alias' trademark glitches, clicks and pops, with a stop-start rhythm that is as much about hesitation as it is about groove. Whereas the productions of Anticon's finest can tend towards the gloomy on occasion, Alias' production here is big and bold, with an epic sweep. And Tarsier? She must be the reason for the new bombastic edge to his beats, delivering a haunting, multi-tracked vocal that is ethereal but hard as diamond. Do you remember This Mortal Coil? So does Alias, and he updates the blueprint in a superlative fashion. This is ethereal, spooky, but not fragile – power-chord gloomtronica, with vivid emotion that is ultimately uplifting. Released early April.
