A rapturous applause and a surge of outstretched hands towards the DJ booth suggests that this is a successful event indeed (Sub Club have even gone all out and put Glade plug-ins around the venue for the night). After some appropriate soul revving tunes from the Freq residents, Guillame & The Coutu Dumounts steals the show with his live latin and afrobeat influenced microhouse, harnessing funk and soul blues to 4/4 rhythms with a Detroit twist. Looking as if he has come ashore from some 1920's pirating, he demonstrates his futuristic vision to an enthralling conclusion. Surprisingly, Akufen takes a secondary role to his labelmate tonight, taking the pace down a notch for a minimal journey through the bass and beats of Musique Risquee; but frankly, any more arrhythmia-inducing blasts of music would have soon put a stop to the Freq's crowd already thumping hearts.
