2009 has seen the three piece We Have Band fulfilling a hectic schedule; despite having only played their debut gig a year ago, the trio are now regarded as one of the most exciting bands coming out of London. The hype surrounding them resulted in both Puregroove and Kitsune releasing the band’s demos on their compilations.

“Puregroove and Kitsune have both been great for us. They're two very brave and genuinely interesting groups of people so it was great to work with them. Massive credit has to go to the 50 Bones label also who actually put out our first single. That's where it all began for us. The reputation these labels have has been amazing for us because people take note of what they release so we've gained a lot from them. Luckily they all came about because they liked our music and we just spoke about putting something out and then we made it happen. “

So how did We Have Band come together to create music? “Thomas and Dede are married to each other and we all used to work together. We came together as a bit of an accident really. We had the idea to make music even before we knew each other that well so it was just a play around to start with and then it just snowballed into action and to where we are now. We had no plans for all the stuff we've done so we started off very innocent and without any expectations, which was nice. We met up just to eat, drink and write songs for about 6 months before we even talked about playing any shows. Thomas and I were in a few quite different bands before. Dede hadn't ever set foot on a stage before gig one. It's a nice thing that it feels totally new for us all and it really doesn't compare in the slightest to anything we did before so that doesn't really influence either. Especially when things get busy so quickly; you really get immersed in it. This is our whole world now. It's like having a baby, it can't compare to anything else.”

When it comes to their live performance do they adapt their performance based on their surroundings? Or can people expect to see the same show regardless of the tour date? “We know Death Disco's a party night so we'll play to that for sure. We kind of straddle a few styles so we get to dress things up and down as we like. Nights like this we want to get the room as sweaty as possible so we'll hit it hard. Our own shows are a bit more balanced and we play the album out a lot more.”

We Have Band join the Death Disco residents, Brodinski, Grum, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Filthy Dukes and Louis La Rouche on 12 Dec.
