Ultragroove vs Velvet @ Cabaret Voltaire, 19 Dec

A hard choice for hard times

It’s a battle between house and techno for the Ultragroove and Velvet troops. The Speakeasy, upstairs at Cabaret Voltaire, hosts Velvet for their capital debut. Launch-night treats come in the form of dynamic duo Filthy Rich and Paul Maddox (aka Spektre) with a live set. The pair can boast about an impressive production catalogue, and a DJing schedule that matches the very best(it's Harry Klein the week after). DJ support rallies from usual suspects Kill the Kid, John Gerrard and Le Mac for an event of uncompromising techno. Downstairs, Ultragroove celebrate Christmas in their inimitable style. Head honcho Gareth Somerville presides over the headliner spot, Craig Smith will warm the early birds with soul, funk and disco and Gino is supplying eclectic beats in room two. Only problem now is, which night do you go to?

10pm-3am, £10 advance for Velvet. 11pm-3am, £5 before midnight, £8 after midnight.
