Get down early, sip some free whisky cocktails, and watch the sparks fly

Nepotism? Us? NEVER! When the Skinny got involved in helping search for a band to kick off the new era of Glenfiddich Indpendent Mix, we genuinely had no idea that the first support slot would fall to one of our favourite bands, featured in Issue 1, and like last month's support act Livesciences, also featured at our own launch party! But guess whose album landed on our doormat first? Yes, that's right folks, the mighty Disciples of Panic Earth will be bringing the noise Partick-style to the Glenfiddich Independent Mix in April. DJ Default, Samurai Solareye and crew will be supporting Ninja Tune's Poets of Rhythm. Having released some quality hip-hop / soul nuggets on their own Hotpie & Candy records, they were re-discovered in the nineties by Lyrics Born of Quannum, and their classic funk-45 sampling productions were brought to wider attention and deserving acclaim. Their soul-fried live show should provide ample evidence of their crate-digging prowess. There's also a choice DJ set on offer from Grand Central's Boca 45, the football-fixated Bristolian hip-hop supremo. Expect fireworks for D.O.P.E. as there were for Livesciences last month – get down early, sip some free whisky cocktails, and watch the sparks fly! Demos for next month's support slot can be sent to: GLENFIDDICH DEMOS, The Cabaret Voltaire, 36 Blair Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1QR.
