House of Techno Event Preview, April 2008

Article by Liam Arnold | 24 Apr 2008

The Ballers Social Club continue their winning streak in May with a lesson in bass monstrosity from two of dubstep's nastiest exponents, Milanese and Neil Landstrumm facing off over the Glasgow Art School's PA on 9 May (11pm-3am, £8/£10). Landstrumm brings a very Scottish form of techno, steeped in the dirtiest ragga, whilst Milanese's grungy doomstep has shaken the foundations of the Soundhaus and Blackfriars in the past year. If you want to hear Kompakt's finest superteam live, check out the heroic team-up of Michael Mayer and Superpitcher (inventively called Supermayer) at Optimo on the 23 May (Sub Club, Glasgow, details tbc). On 2 May the legendary Substance and Vainqueur are crashing into the Subby with Actress, head honcho of Werk records, in support. Both are doing live sets, and for only ten bones, this is a chance to wreck your head twice in one night (11pm-3am).

Across in the east, wee djs is performing a live PA at Substance on 10 May at Henry's Cellar Bar, (11-3, £tbc), whilst Flying with Penguins seem an intriguing proposition at The Wee Red Bar on 14 May, presenting a form of psychedelic laptop electronica that proves you can remix Won't get Fooled Again (7pm, £4). And with the possibility of summer, check out local boy Engine7's new single on Cargo, available in May; a euphoric blast of swooping electronics and hazy shoegaze that's perfect for lazing on a sunny afternoon. Also available this month is Innervisions' latest ambient compilation, Muting the Noise, similarly appropriate chill-out material.
