Homeclubbing Scotland 2009

Forget Homecoming Scotland - Homeclubbing's the new festival on the block, celebrating the leading club nights in our biggest cities.

Guess what? The festival season hasn’t quite drawn to a close yet. But don’t rush to get your battered tent and polka dot wellies out of storage – this multi-city event will have you tucked up inside at some of Scotland’s finest club nights, while the dreary, dark evenings set in.

Everyone’s been on about celebrating Scottish worldly contributions during the Homecoming year, but it’s not all about castles, golf and whisky – there’s a thriving diverse club culture to show off too. Enter Homeclubbing, a festival paying tribute to the best club nights in Scotland’s major cities, presented by Radio Magnetic and The Skinny.

Kicking things off at the Sub Club in Glasgow, on Friday 25 September, is Kinky Afro’s final soiree as they bow out on a high note after a decade in Glasgow’s clubbing landscape. Hosted by Kinky Afro DJs, Mr Mafro and the Kinkdogg, they’ve yanked special guest Matthew Herbert back from his DJ retirement to see them off, mixing his experimental records with ten years of Afro anthems.

Other renowned Sub Club nights on the Homeclubbing itinerary are Optimo, Subculture and How’s Your Party before the festival makes its way to the capital at the start of October, with Edinburgh delights including Taste’s infamous Sunday night party at the GRV and a newbie; the recently established Volume at Sneaky Pete’s.

Heading north, Aberdeen’s boutique nightspot Snafu will present Mixtape, a Friday night that’s making a big name for itself, paying homage to ghetto sounds from around the globe, this time featuring Funk D’Void, followed by a visit to Dundee’s Reading Rooms’ for Ctrl Alt Dft.

The two-month showcase will be wrapped up with Glasgow School of Art’s annual Halloween party, this year co-hosted by Chakra and Radio Magnetic.

But if you can’t quite make it to all the dates, there will be coverage aplenty, courtesy of Radio Magnetic and The Skinny, including DJ and club profiles, interviews with the residents and promoters involved with the various nights and club recordings made during Homeclubbing.

The Glasgow dates have been endorsed by Glasgow UNESCO City of Music as part of their initial series of associated events.
