It's twenty years since the release of the Happy Mondays' first album and although they are not strictly Beats related, their contribution to the British rave scene is undeniable. The current line-up features Sean, Bez and Gary Whelan but there have been scene arguments that without Mark Day on guitar, Paul Ryder on bass, and Paul Davis, the Happy Mondays only have the name, and not the true essence - think of it like the pilled-up version of the Guns and Roses feud. The trio of original members are joined by new guitarist Kav Sandhu of Sonic Audio, with the rest of his band serving as members of the Mondays' live line-up: bassist Mikey Shine, keyboard player Dave Parkinson, guitarist John Dunn, and Poss on the decks. Their latest release, Uncle Dysfunktional, has received mixed reviews, but Ryder and the gang can still put on a damn good show if things go their way. Check out the rave scene's roots!
