Oh141 presents Hieroglyphic Being, MHM & Becky Marshall @ The Art School, Thu 13 Oct

Going on the strength – and eclectic nature – of Hieroglyphic Being's latest full length release, which dropped back in August, this Art School show will be one to remember. The Mathematics label owner plays his first ever Glasgow live set, with support from Oh141 regulars, Rubadub's MHM AKA Mother (who will also be playing live) and So Low's Becky Marshall.

Job Jobse & Red Axes @ Sub Club, Sat 15 Oct

With a CV full of credits some DJs can only dream of, Dutch artist Job Jobse is an exciting feature in this week's clubbing calendar. After learning the ropes at Amsterdam’s legendary club 11, Jobse interned at the renowned Innervisions label in Berlin, before moving back to Amsterdam to work as the booker of Trouw. On the back of a huge run of summer festival dates, Jobse also manages to hold a Drukpers residency and head up the Life and Death label.

An exciting support act can be found in Red Axes, aka Tel-Aviv based producers and DJs Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi. After living in Amsterdam, the duo returned to Tel-Aviv and began the underground psychedelic electronic party series Break It!, reinforcing Tel Aviv's burgeoning reputation as a party hotspot. Their Sub Club slot comes ahead of the pair's upcoming Disco Halal release with label boss Moscoman and Krikor.

Red Bull Music Academy, Thu 13 - Sun 16 Oct, various venues

This weekend the Red Bull Music Academy lands in Glasgow for the second consecutive year, after a bumper outing in 2015 that featured appearances from the likes of Danny Brown and Optimo. From 13 – 16 October, the city will play host to a groundbreaking series of shows, lectures and workshops.

The standout event is a Glasgow x London grime showdown at The Poetry Club, where veterans of the scene such as D Double E and Sir Spyro are joined by G1’s finest beat-makers in the form of the Astral Black collective (13 Oct, £10). Elsewhere, highlights include Kompakt mainstay Kölsch taking his live show to the Barrowland Ballroom before hitting Sub Club for the afterparty (13 Oct), La Cheetah celebrates its 7th birthday with a line-up featuring Actress and iconic NYC party-starters Mister Saturday Night (15 Oct, £15); Mumdance and Russell Haswell host a modular synth workshop on Glasgow Uni campus (16 Oct, £5); and Jackmaster and Throwing Shade host a party in a launderette on Argyle Street (15 Oct, free).

Book Ahead...

One thing to be said for the colder months is that they bring with them a slew of top tier club nights. Case in point, the following three upcoming nights at the ever reliable Sub Club. On Friday 4 Nov, Numbers host Netherlands-based Hunee, who is sure to fill the dancefloor with his playful, innovative take on soul-infused house music. Number's own Spencer will be on warm up duties (£13 + bf).

Further afield, Leon Vynehall takes to the decks on 4 December with support from Big Miz. The man who produced one of this year's standout house releases, Rojus, fronts up for a FLY Club Sunday night special, with tickets currently available for a tenner (plus bf). Finally, move quick if you want to catch Dutch veteran Joris Voorn alongside Edinburgh prodigy Theo Kottis. The gig is on Wednesday 14 December, but tickets are already down to final release (£20 + bf).
