Highlife in Havana with Auntie Flo @ The Art School, Fri 11 Nov

Highlife present a Cuban special this Friday hosted by Auntie Flo, with the event also serving as a launch party for the Havana Glasgow Cuban Film Festival. Originally from Glasgow but now residing in London, Auntie Flo (real name Brian d'Souza) has travelled the world extensively with his unique ‘Afro-futurist’ sound. He has performed in Cuba twice over the last three years, playing at the first ever Havana World Music festival and then representing the UK as part of events around British Music Week earlier this year.

His first trip spawned the first Highlife World Series release, with collaborations by Auntie Flo and Esa and the brightest new musical talent in Havana. Expect music from these releases alongside Cuban classics and current bangers being produced by a new breed of Cuban musicans, influenced as much by techno as they are rhumba. The gig also features a photography exhibition with pictures from Auntie Flo's huge performance in Verdado, Havana.

FLY Glasgow with Nick Curly & Darius Syrossian @ Sub Club, Sun 13 Nov

FLY Club welcome German heavyweight Nick Curly and Leeds lad Darius Syrossian this Sunday, with the duo bringing their house and techno skills to Sub Club for a serious stomp (£10 + bf).

Or rather, get this date in your diary. Friday 2 Dec sees Optimo go up against The Black Madonna in a special Sub Club fundraiser (with a 4am licence to boot). No advance tickets – £12 before midnight or £15 after midnight (£8 unemployed, with proof).  All profits will be donated to Glasgow Food Banks. As the crew put it: "Glasgow is a tough city but Chicago is even tougher, so who knows which way this will go..."
