A night filled with the very best in drum & bass looks set for the Art School this month as part of Radio One's XtraBass 2007 tour. Over the last couple of years Xplicit has built up a solid reputation as the finest and heaviest d&b night at its monthly parties in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and with this event welcoming heavyweights Fabio and Grooverider amongst others it's sure to pack the atmospheric art school out. Fabio and Grooverider have been setting the standard and breaking the boundaries individually and as a duo for over twenty years. While best known for d&B, they are also credited with playing a significant part in both acid house and techno moving into the mainstream. After first meeting in 1987 at Phase One, a pirate radio station, the duo combined Fabio's funk with Grooverider's hip hop to create an early version of UK acid house. As their sound developed, they produced some of the earliest techno followed by breakbeat records, before becoming a d&b institution on Radio One. Also featured on the bill is 1Xtra star and Intasound record label owner Bailey, who will provide a mix of the best and fresh d&b with some classic reggae and soul sampling. With support coming from Liverpool's highly rated Prophecy and MCs Tonn Piper and MZ, get your tickets early or be prepared to be left tuning into the radio. [Sean McNamara]
