Ferrer first discovered music on a toy ivory piano at the age of four

Bacardi B-Live is returning to Edinburgh (and Cabaret Voltaire) this month, and this time they're bringing Dennis Ferrer and his funky 4/4 vocal-laden deep house. Growing up in a "soul-and-disco-obsessed" NYC home, he first discovered music on a toy ivory piano at the age of four, moving on to scouring record shops at the tender age of eight for rap and hip hop vinyls. The list of influences grew, from Chic's Le Freak, to Kiss, to the Doobie Brothers, resulting in Ferrer refusing to stick to just one style in his music production and DJing. From soulful to afro beats, tech rhythms are bolstered by powerful vocals, such as the gospel flavours on 2003's Church Lady. Support comes from MASH, and Gareth Sommerville of Ultragroove, dishing out finely-crafted house with varying tinges of jazz, afro-beat, garage, tribal and deep tech. Bacardi B-Live will transform the Cab for the event, with trademark drapes, flair bartenders, and lashings and lashings of Bacardi rum cocktails! [Struan Otter]
