Between his esteemed residencies and busy schedule in Barcelona, Ibiza, London and Berlin, Damian Lazarus, the mastermind behind label City Rockers and more recently Crosstown Rebels, is bringing his unique brand of deep and dirty electro-house to We Are... Electric in the Burgh. It was in the custody of Mr Lazarus that Felix Da Housecat's Silver Screen was signed and honed to aerodynamic production perfection, repeated with Coloursound's Fly With Me. With a few years as editor and accomplished muso-journo at Dazed and Confused under his belt, it seems that Lazarus has little to learn about the music business. Funky club classics are largely responsible for his hefty renown on the house circuit, but it is a less conventional blend of breaks, frenetic latin loops and electronica which dominates the bulk of his more recent material. Lazarus says, "When I'm playing I like to think as a clubber and play what I'd like to hear in a set", but not being a fan of the mainstream, he prefers deep tracks that stand out from the crowd. Audiences will invariably experience a journey through time and space: rich fabrics of cavernous palpitations, dexterously studded with subtle, edgy samples and enigmatic build-ups.
