The mighty Four Corners return with a delightful extravaganza of jazz, afrobeat, funk, soul, bossa, reggae and hip hop. The night is a collaboration between the crew of Big Beat and Departure Lounge – two of Edinburgh's most sought after musical events. Four Corners promise to take their guests "on a true musical journey", as the resident DJ team (featuring Astroboy, Simon Hodge, Ketch and Bob Cairns) spin beats and grooves aimed at the head and the feet - dancefloor jazz, broken beats, afro-latin grooves, deep funk, cosmic soul and Brazilian vibes can all be found in the mix. Mr Scruff, Desmond Dekker, Jurassic 5, Spanky Wilson, and 4 Hero are just some of the names which get a play. Each event features a live band, with musical interludes from resident musicians and some of the hottest percussionists from the Scottish scene. The starring band to kick off the evening is the legendary Azymuth. For over three decades this band's energetic performances and unique sound have been truly unmissable. Last year's Edinburgh date sold out fast, so if you fancy some electric funk-jazz, a carnival atmosphere, and seeing these Brazilian boys in action, The Skinny recommends you grab your ticket a.s.a.p. For an explosive, exhilarating, booty-shaking, "beat-breaking mash-up of all things global", immerse yourself in the vibrant, all-encompassing experience of Four Corners. [Karen Taggart]
