Soon to have you chanting 'techno, techno, techno' like it was the 90s again.

Oui, Freq have gone a bit Francais (Canadian French that is) pour Octobre, with a Musique Risquee showcase featuring the stylisations of Akufen, and Guillaume & The Cotou Dumonts. Akufen, the phonetic spelling of acouph'ne, the French for tinnitus, and the pseudonym for Marc Leclair, has become a hotly tipped talent after the release of the micro-sampling My Way in 2002. It wouldn't be a good idea to predict on these pages the style of set he is going to play, as he is prone to turning the tables at the last moment: it could be micro-house, it could be downtempo techno... Akufen has now gone on to to start his own label, Musique Risquee, which features Guillaume & The Cotou Dumonts; they're just one man and his 'special blend of funk, house, techno, gospel, swing, barbershop quartet and afro-beat'. So, the spectrum is well and truly covered! His debut album will be released later this month
on Musique Risquee so keep a stealthy eye out. Support comes from Freq residents Brian and Murray, soon to have you chanting 'techno, techno, techno' like it was the 90s again. [Alex Burden]
