DJ Chart: Pins and Needles 08/06

Feature by Andrew Cooke | 14 Aug 2006
1. Senor Coconut - Behind the Mask (Villalobos remix) (Essay)
A latin-jazz jaunt that sounds 50 years-old with a few brass blurts and a fine, punchy latin-electro rhythm.

2. Delia Gonzalez and Gavin Russom - Revelee (Carl Craig remix) (DFA)
Starting with a saturated melody in a thick, acid-electro texture, Carl then stares at his hands for four minutes until he finally drops a mid-tempo bass kick. Worth the wait.

3. Rekid - Next Stop Chicago (Jesse Rose remix) (Rekids)
A new track from Rekid, with a long trippin' disco infected club tune. Plus another solid remix from Jesse Rose on the flipside.

4. Krafty Kuts - Bass Phenomenon (Against the Grain)
One phat bitch with a complete breakdown slap bang in the middle before heading back into the fray.

5. Loco Dice - Seeing Through Shadows (Minus)
Known for his deep and groovy productions and driving DJ sets, Loco Dice's debut on Minus is a symphonic slice of minimized and maximized techno.

6. Robotman - Do Da Doo (Novamute)
Richie Hawtin monikor mayhem from start to finish, the Plastikman acid mix being the pick of the bunch.

7. Depeche Mode - John The Revelator (Unkle dub) (Mute)
A raw and furious throbbing gospel-like track from Depeche Mode gets a chunky dub rework from Unkle.

8. Florian Meindl - Sputnik (Stil Vor Talent)
A new boy from Austria aged 20, Florian makes our ears prick up with this spiky, tech house number.

9. DJ Pumphead - Acid police (Aceeeid Germany)
From the legendary Acid Wars parties, Pumphead jacks it up a notch with this 303 Vs. KRS One bootleg.

10. Cobblestone Jazz - Dumptruck EP (Wagon Repair)
Mathew Jonson, Danuel Tate and Tyger Dhula release their first record on Wagon Repair at long last, and it doesn't disappoint.
