Hot Off The Comics Press: Picks Of The Week 13 April

Blog by Thom Atkinson | 13 Apr 2011

In the daunting maze of a comic book shop, The Skinny continues its endeavour to bring you the week’s best titles and this week kicks into gear by pointing out an obviously awesome combination: Stephen King and comic books. Marvel have been publishing adaptations of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower since 2007, and this week sees the end of the latest chapter with Dark Tower: The Gunslinger - Little Sisters of Eluria #5 by Robin Furth and Peter David. Although this may not be the best jumping on point it does serve as a great taster for the series, and if you are a fan of both the author and of comic books then what’s not to love.

Over in the DC universe there is another title deserving recognition which comes from writers Keith Giffen and J.M. Dematteis, Booster Gold #43. If you don’t know who Booster Gold is then that is a crying shame as he is one of the most underrated DC characters. As a self aggrandising glory hog from the future using his knowledge of the past to save the day he has become one of the most likable and conflicted characters in DC’s repertoire.

Moving away from ‘the big two’ and in honour of this week’s Kapow! Comic Con, the indie alternative comes courtesy of Mark Millers’ comic book magazine hybrid CLiNT #7. If you are a comic book fan and you are not reading this title then you are missing a great opportunity to see some of the best, ballsiest and ballistic comic strips ripped from the pages of the comic-verse. This pool of talent is brought to you courtesy of Millar, his comic book cohort Jonathan Ross and Marvel’s own John Romita Jr., give it your full attention.

Don’t forget, Wednesday is comic book release day!
