Comic Book Guy: Comic Con Round up

Blog by Thom Atkinson | 27 Jul 2011

And thus it came to pass, that everyone packed up their bags and buggered off home from this year’s San Diego Comic Con, leaving the rest of us to look upon a weekend of multiple mega announcements from the world of comics, film, TV and games from afar. So in rounding up this ‘must be there’ weekend, where to begin?
It's hard to surmise the biggest news among the panels, the Q&As, the screenings and the showcases. With queues going around the block, would it be the movie premières or announcements that caught the headlines? The animated Batman: Year One débuted to a receptive audience and Andrew Garfield did a delightful little publicity stunt, arriving dressed in a cheap Spider-Man costume, pretending to be a fan.

There was a catalogue of comics news as Marvel announced the return of The Defenders, later this year, how Heroes for Hire would transform to become Villains for Hire or how there will be a death at the Avengers Academy.

DC talked about Lois Lane's new boyfriend, Legion crossing over with Star Trek and Grant Morrison waxed lyrical about the mythos of superheroes.
There was big games news with not just Uncharted 3 and Star Wars: Old Republic, but the comic book tie ins of X-Men : Destiny and Spider-Man: Edge of Time saw footage hit the screens.

TV news came with the 4 minute trailer for The Walking Dead season 2 and news of Marvels AKA Jessica Jones heading to small screens. As well as a host of other projects all aiming for pilot approval.

All this, the indie publishers, the biggest names in the business, thousands of people in cos-play and Hugh Jackman in the parking lot, if that doesn't make you jealous, well I guess you had to be there.
