The live-action Amazing Spider-Man is now very much stepping into the limelight, thanks mainly to that excellent web-tingling trailer that débuted at San Diego Comic Con. With the Andrew Garfield starring movie all a buzz, it is perhaps only right that the source material have its own time to shine as Amazing Spider-Man #666 begins a new arc for Peter Parker, Spider-Island. This issue is a great place for new readers to begin, as it will play out as a prelude to the upcoming Spider-event. Writer Dan Slott and artist Stefano Caselli return as New York becomes infested! The average New York Joe seems to be developing Spider-powers! Will they all handle them with great responsibility? Head to your nearest comic shop to find out.

Unfortunately it's the same old conundrum at DC; Flashpoint rumbles on, the big reboot is imminent, to read or not to read? Well if you want to be assured of quality regardless, pick up Detective Comics #880 by Scott Snyder. Not only is the American Vampire writer currently one of the best in the business, but his tight-nit mystery unfolds with the Joker on the loose! Throw in art by Losers illustrator (and one of Scotland's own) Jock and you have a series to shake up Gotham.

Elsewhere, or from Image in particular, we have Vault #1 (of 3) by Sam Sarkar, with art by Garrie Gastonny. A tale of treasure hunters where dangerous items of legend get unearthed as a massive storm hits Sable island. This team of scientists believes they are prepared for anything, but are they prepared for what they will find in The Vault? Set to be an interesting adventure mystery fresh from the deep.
