Danton Eeprom - Yes Is More

Album Review by Euan Ferguson | 07 Jan 2010
Album title: Yes Is More
Artist: Danton Eeprom
Label: Fondation
Release date: 25 Jan

Electro eccentric Danton Eeprom has been around for a few years now, wildly switching directions every so often through his varied solo singles, remixes for Royksopp and Simian Mobile Disco and his own Fondation label. So it’s no surprise that his debut LP is a mixed bag, and rather a hard one to define. It’s tied together with glitchy, techy beats and reverbed 80s synths, and Danton’s aloof vocals pop up in variously FXed guises. Obvious comparisons arise to the polysexual electro of Tiga, but tracks such as the deep and clubby Confessions of An English Opium Eater bring to mind the exuberant techno of Matthew Dear. In between the campy numbers (an interesting cover of Sister Sledge’s disco classic Lost In Music, for example), there’s some downright odd moments of sonic experimentation – The Feminine Man is a sinister five minutes of bells, clicks and Eeprom whispering: “Sometimes, I feel strange.” Sometimes? [Euan Ferguson]
