A group of burgeoning artists, fed up with lack of opportunities in Glasgow, decided to get together and create their own...

One Creative Scotland may well be one of the most satisfyingly messy events Glasgow sees this month, with artists from a huge spectrum of disciplines getting together to exhibit their work against a backdrop of live music.

It's a brilliant idea – the frustrated young things in Glasgow who had trouble finding the space and exposure they needed, banded together and found it with the Tollhouse Studios under the leadership of its owner Chris Deeprose and Suspire drummer Clare Kelly. Artists newly emerged in Glasgow have been attracted to the event and will join those already acquainted with the space. The main foyer will host most of the visual arts, although some will be contained in the adjacent music rooms; Jamie Campbell's new piece 'Poetry on Mirrors' is part of the photography on display, along with photo exhibition 'Young Creatives' - currently on show at Urban Outfitters - by Kirsten Norwood, Oscar Samson and Gordon Burniston. Sculpture, light installations, film stencil art and photo shop creations will form the greater part of the exhibition and will all take place against a line-up of music featuring The Ballachulich Hellhounds, The State Broadcasters, Salon Society, Suspire, Mulehog, Welcome to Spook Club, Oli Melville, Soom T and Stuart Christopher.

It promises to be a positive collaboration; says Kelly "We hope that the Scottish talents of our growing circle of friends does not go unnoticed. Many of those involved fall within the bracket of not having the proper requirements for government funding; trying to sustain full-time jobs outwith their field; and often, as a result of the full time job, [the artists/musicians] find little time to create at all. One Creative Scotland is an event that wants to encourage creativeness [in] those people, and celebrate the rich talent that Scotland has to offer."
