The lure of Optimo meets Super Saturday certainly proved to be a triumphant one for Edinburgh's Venue. A healthy sized crowd went along to check out the unique stylings of Glasgow's Optimo boys. Playing the Cooler and Middle Floors Optimo's J.D. Twitch and J.G. Wilkes managed a fine collection of tracks, and what is more, did not forget to bring with them their special talent for mixing every genre under the sun. Instantly recognizable tunes such as The Rolling Stones' Paint it Black and The Clash's London Calling were spun alongside a diverse selection of more dance orientated music ranging from electro to drum and bass. The Middle Floor seemed to be the place to be, however, practically bursting at the seams with an array of smiling, bopping heads. Super Saturday's Kev Wright, Gary Mac and Oli on the other hand played Upstairs to a slightly more subdued and relaxed crowd. Optimo's 2006 tour continues around the globe but makes a welcome return to Edinburgh's Venue once again on March 4. [Natalie Doyle]
