Tony Jameson & Katie Mulgrew Tell Tales

Review by Barrie Morgan | 17 Aug 2012

For all of you expecting yet another comedy double act, you may be sorely disappointed. This is a show split in two. First we get Katie Mulgrew, a lively, fresh-faced young scamp who seems full of the joys of spring. Mulgrew seems shocked by the number of people present and this throws her a little as she seeks to cater the material for the audience. Although this is a sign of a comic willing to adapt, it becomes a conscious thing for her to refer to as she gauges the level throughout. Her material is light and centres around family. It's an enjoyable half hour but the problem with this kind of set-up is that it's not a fully fleshed-out Fringe show.

Tony Jameson on the other hand is much more comfortable with the crowd. He barely gives us a say as he launches into his material. Both approaches have their pros and cons but Jameson's 10 minute spot on Football Manager misses the mark somewhat. It seems he's decided on a humourous issue to discuss but hasn't really built up too much strong material in regards to it. He plans to come back next year with a full FM show, but knowing Jameson, he may well be managing Blythe by then.
