The Great Brain Robbery

Review by Kate Russell | 31 Aug 2011

If you like your comedy classic, good-natured, and pre-watershed, this show is for you. And if you like clever concepts, cunning twists, and a dose of mischief, it’s for you too. The Great Brain Robbery dance their merry dance right along the border between snappy and silly, and they do it with style.

They are a well oiled machine; there is clear chemistry between the group’s members and they each fit into the troupe like the pieces of a jigsaw. There is no sense of in-group rivalry or hierarchy as each performer is as good as the next, each adding value but never overshadowing one another. They are well-rehearsed without being overly polished.

While there is nothing new or especially innovative, there are some excellent ideas and quirky twists on familiar themes. Sketches about professional vagueness and Ofstead for movie villains are especially noteworthy, and unlike many sketch troupes who seem to crowbar music in, a song about travelling had the audience in stitches.

Expect big things from these guys.
