"God gave me these hand and by God I’m gonna use ‘em"

Homemade Fusion serves up a winning compilation of humourous and moving songs by Kooman and Dimond, performed by In Short Productions. The subject matter are timeless themes of twenty-somethings trying to find their way through life, well, sort of. Some of these people are a little unhinged. One, guilty of Loving To Excess, stalks a girl home to go through her underwear drawer. Another laments over how her super-sweet boyfriend will never act out her extreme sexual fetishes.

The direction is simple but sufficient for creating an atmosphere, nothing more is needed in this narrative-less song cycle. After the four performers join together in the opening number they each take a turn at singing a solo piece before pairing into duets. An illicit office-based romance fuelled by slick innuendos analogising everyday office tasks to acts of a sexual nature gives way to the warm Lucy’s Laugh and beautiful Out of my Head, sung with so much tenderness it seems the performer is close to tears, and she’s not alone.
