Richard Dawkins Does Not Exist, And We Can Prove It

Article by Barrie Morgan | 19 Aug 2011

Mark Quinn and Charlotte Young are not stand up comedians. They make this very clear from the outset. They are mathematicians, but don't let that put you off. The duo manage to formulate a quirky algorithm of a show, mixing components of stage drama, comedy, music, sermon and indeed mathematics.

At its core, the show has some pretty hard to understand mathematics but with the use of flip-charts and onstage banter Young and Quinn talk us through their thought process with great effect. Young's charm and gift for thinking on her feet balance Quinn's more deadpan comical musings capably. The dynamic of any comedy double act is often hard to get right but the pair seem to be synchronised enough for us to relax into the show and allow us to trust them for the hour.

The ultimate outcome, whether Richard Dawkins exists or not, seems like a moot point; it's the journey and the effort on display that truly impresses.

(Mathematics x Comedy) + Flip Charts = Funny
