Jollygoodlarks: How To Make It Huge

Article by Bernard O'Leary | 18 Aug 2011

Jollygoodlarks have sensed an opportunity in this fame-hungry world and are offering a crash course on achieving superstardom, presented by the very gentrified Sir Liam Gallagher.

What follows is an hour of, well, larks, in which rising stars Greg Haiste and Marie Lawrence muck around with rather impressive gusto. Most of the show is character based, with some original creations such as the coked-up record producer and a couple of manic Scouse schoolgirls with a patchy knowledge of the Beatles. There are also a couple of celebrity guest lecturers, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Wills & Kate should be death but it actually ends up being one of the stronger scenes, mainly due to some well-timed filth and Lawrence looking a bit like a Middleton sister (Haiste also has thinning hair, which demonstrates his commitment to the role).

It's all very silly knockabout fun, occasionally hilarious, always energetic and with an admirable focus on showing the punters a good time. There are a few choice indie jokes that tickle the musical aesthetes in the room, and venn diagrams about anal sex for the rest. Definitely a jolly good lark.
