Rich Hall

Rich Hall has done well in Britain. The American, writer, playwright and occasional musician has a dry and sarcastic sense of humour that resonates well with us here, offering a style and persona we haven’t quite seen before. Far from the “have a nice day” attitude, he sees irony in situations, brings it on-stage and mocks it mercilessly for our amusement.

Returning to The Fringe, he keeps his relaxed and down to earth style, playing Country and Western music to the crowd before he takes the stage, though however traditional in his tastes he is up to date on politics and popular culture.

His gravelly voice and grumpy diatribes on political acts and music are wildly entertaining. On stage with only a mic and a keyboard, he needs no gimmicks. He improvises with audience members well and isn’t afraid of embarrassing a few all in the name of fun. For fun and grown-ups only, he’s well worth the money.

Rich Hall, Pleasance Courtyard, 21:40, until 28 August. From £13.50
